A simple beautiful image.  Very romantic.  The symmetrical composition creates a foreground of man-made architecture, a middle ground of nature’s mountain framing the church and a background of misty sky.  Gives the impression of the whole world waking up to a higher purpose.  Has strong, positive, emotional appeal.

Una imagen simplemente bella.  Muy romántica.  La composición simétrica produce un primer plano arquitectónico hecho por el hombre.  Un plano medio de la naturaleza de la montaña que enmarca la iglesia y un tercer plano de un cielo de bruma ligera.  Da la impresión de todo un mundo levantándose a un propósito mas alto.  Posee una atracción fuerte, positiva y emotiva.

Esta serigrafía demuestra exitosamente la excelente ejecución de una técnica difícil.  Muy simple pero directa.  Una grafica muy limpia y una hermosa composición.

This is a beautiful picture.  Good composition.  Successful interplay of male and female along with subtle use of colour and form.  Unique characteristic of being able to reverse the top and bottom of the image.  Confident use of sketchy line drawing imparts emotional content to the faces.

Esta es una pintura muy bonita.  Buena composición.  Interactuación exitosa  del hombre y mujer junto con un sutil uso del color y la forma.  Tiene una característica única de poder ser revertida la parte de arriba y la parte de abajo de la imagen.  El uso confidente del bosquejo de línea de dibujo transmite un contenido emocional a las caras.

A lovely, sophisticated wall sculpture.  The overall mechanical approach to construction with just a hint of the hand etched river underscores the theme of nature vs. machine.  Effective, subtle use of materials, patina and three dimensions.  The title, stamped numbers and graphic elements create questions about the categorizing and controlling of nature. 

Una bella y sofisticada escultura de pared.  El aproche mecanico en general para construir con un boceto a mano del rio enfatiza el tema de la naturaleza contra la maquina.  Uso delicado de materiales, patina y forma tridimensional. El titulo, números estampados y elementos gráficos origina preguntas acerca de la categorización y control de la naturaleza.

Though obsessive, as so much good folk art often is, the artist delights the eye with the inventive use of an everyday material masterfully transformed to create a highly realistic depiction of a village on stilts.

Aunque obsesivo, tanto como el arte de la gente lo es frecuentemente, el artista deleita el ojo con el uso imaginativo de un material de uso diario transformándolo majestuosamente para crear un alta representación realística de un pueblo sobre zancos.

Andrea Lambert: 1st Prize / Primer Premio

The blurring technique is well handled.  A fascinating narrative painting.  So simple and yet the tremendous movement and action creates interest and emotional response.  The effective depiction of grabbing a startled animal speaks to the rural activity of sheep rearing with the bright white fleece reminding us of the purity of the sacrificial lamb.

Bien manejada la técnica de la imagen  borrosa.  Una pintura fascinante con una gran narrativa.  Tan simple y al mismo tiempo el movimiento y las acciones estupendas crean una respuesta de  interés y de emoción.  La representación efectiva de asir un animal asustado habla de la actividad rural de rebaños criados con una brillante pelusa blanca recordándonos de la pureza de una cordero sacrificado.

Polo Xolotl: 2nd Prize / Segundo Premio

A beautifully nuanced painting.  A delightful demonstration of technique masterfully employed to communicate a story.  Wonderful use of light and shade, good combination of realism and impressionism.  Interest created through an asymmetrical composition.   The brilliantly lit ghost-character represents the past and is contrasted with the contemporary flower girl leading our eye into the dark green of a primordial forest.

Un pintura con un matiz hermoso.  Una demostración deliciosa de una majestuosa técnica usada para expresar una historia.  Uso maravilloso de la luz y la sombra, buena combinación de realismo e impresionismo.  Un interés creado a través de una composición asimétrica.   La brillantísima luz  fantasmagórica representa el pasado y es contrastado con la niña de la flores llevando nuestro ojo dentro del verde oscuro de un bosque primordial.

Susana Goldin: 3rd Prize / Tercer Premio

The well drawn, quick, sketchy technique supports the edgy narrative.  The use of black and white reminds us of a newspaper image of a lone figure walking in an impersonal urban environment.  The strong graphic of the brute architecture contrasts with the delicate, almost graceful bend of the person’s knee.  His shadow dribbling like a stream of oil in the gutter emphasizes loneliness, isolation and dejection.  Simple and subtle, the painting sneaks up on you with a powerful emotional impact.

La buena representación del dibujo, la técnica rápida del bosquejo respalda la impulsiva narrativa.  El uso del negro y del blanco nos recuerda una imagen de periódico de una figura solitaria caminando en un ambiente urbano inhóspito.  El gráfico fuerte de la arquitectura tosca contrasta con lo delicado, casi graciosamente se dobla a las rodillas de la persona.  Su sombra goteando como una corriente de aceite en la cuneta enfatiza la soledad, el aislamiento y el abatimiento.  Simple y delicada, la pintura sigilosamente se acerca a uno con un impacto emocional fuerte.

Vizcalla Hildemanry

A beautiful painting.  The peaceful presence of lovely bouquet of lilies contrasts with the rust stains on the bucket and tile ledge.  Having the bucket sitting on the edge of the platform adds tension. Good use of light and a loose, brushy handling of paint.

Una bella pintura.  La presencia pacifica de un hermoso ramo de calas contrasta con las manchas de oxido del balde en el borde  la repisa.  Situando el balde en el borde de la repisa añade tensión.  Buen uso de la luz y un manejo suelto de la pincelada.

Ponce Ccana Fidel

Strong colour adds impact to the image.  All the isolated components of face, hands, circles, squares and abstraction threaten to overwhelm the painting but the artist ties it all together through balanced composition and directing the eye back to the standing figure.

El color fuerte añade impacto a la imagen.  Todos los componentes aislados de la cara, de las manos, de los círculos, de los cuadrados y de la abstracción amenazan con abrumar la pintura pero el artista une esto todo a través de una composición balanceada y dirige el ojo a la figura que esta de pie.

An assured use of the very difficult medium of Egg Tempera on board.  Another deceptively simple subject full of nuanced emotion and hidden meanings.

Un confidente uso de un medio difícil la Tempera sobre tabla.  Otro objeto aparentemente simple lleno de matizadas emociones y escondidos significados.

A very good handling of a difficult medium.  A children’s book illustration suffused with light and packed with overlapping detail.  Check out the bee hovering above the dreaming man’s face.

Un buen uso de una técnica difícil.  Una ilustración de un libro de niños bañada con luz y atestada con detalle sobrepuesto.  Observe las abejas revoloteando sobre la cara del hombre que aparece soñando.
