Osvaldo "Achu" De Leon Kantule

Oswaldo DeLeón Kantule (also known as "Achu") was born in Ustupu, Kuna Yala, Panama, in 1964. He began painting (self-taught) in the 1980's. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Panama. He has exhibited his work in Panama, Cuba, Canada, France, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, and the USA , and his paintings are in private collections in Panama, Cuba, Spain, France, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Portugal, and Argentina.

In 1996 Oswaldo won First Prize in the National INAC Painting Competition (Panamanian National Institute of Culture), and he was invited to participate in the Sixth Biennial Art Competition of Panama in June of 2002. In 2004 he received a grant to participate in the Smithsonian Institution's Visiting Artist Program in Washington, D.C.

In 2007, Oswaldo will be both exhibiting his own work and curating shows of other artists' works.

Oswaldo DeLeón Kantule (conocido también como "Achu") nace en Ustupu, Kuna Yala, Panamá, en 1964. Comienza a pintar de manera autodidacta en los años 80. Posee licenciatura en Artes Plásticas y Visuales de la Universidad de Panamá. Ha tenido más de 9 exposiciones individuales y ha participado en varias exposiciones colectivas en Cuba, Canadá, El Salvador, Guatemala, México, Estados Unidos y otros países. Sus pinturas están en colecciones privadas en Panamá, Cuba, España, Francia, Canadá, Alemania, Gran Bretaña, Bélgica, Portugal y Argentina, entre otros.

En 1996 Oswaldo obtuvo el Primer Premio del Concurso Nacional de Pintura del Instituto Nacional de Cultura de Panamá y fue seleccionado para participar en la Sexta Bienal de Panamá en junio de 2002. En 2004 recibió una beca de investigación para artistas visitantes del Instituto Smithsonian, en Washington.

En 2007 Oswaldo estará curando algunas exposiciones además de participar como artista.
