About Us

Fundarte Latinoamérica was created at the end of 2003 by Luis Ramirez, founder of the now ex-group Jirart. Seeking new perspectives, he set up the bases of a new organization that would develop Latin American cultural work in Canada, a development eagerly awaited by the visual artists and the community in general. Thus was born the first exhibition of the visual arts LATINOAMERICA 2004, in which 34 artists, representing all of the Latin communities in Canada, participated. Due to the unprecedented success it was decided to legally constitute Fundarte. In October of 2004 a non-profit organization was formed and given the number 1630810. In March of 2005 a second exhibition, called the Second Juried National Arts Exhibition-LATINOAMERICA 2005 was held with the participation of 62 artists from Latin American countries as well as some specially invited non-Spanish artists and artists from other countries. The artists showed works in four categories: Painting, Photography, Sculpture and Drawing and Engraving.

Due to the support of the artists and the general community, Fundarte will continue on its chosen path, organizing the visual artists through cultural activities such as art exhibitions and contests in Canada, through workshops, etc., showing our capable presence in the Canadian environment and at the same time enriching the cultural mosaic of the great country that is our new home, keeping alive our roots in interrelationship with the other communities of Canada.

OBJECTIVES

The great goals of our organization are to hold the First Latin American Biennal of the Visual Arts in Canada, to set up the Latin American Cultural Centre and finally, the dream of all Latin Americans, a Latin American Museum of the Visual Arts.
